Hire Terms & Conditions

In hiring a bike or equipment from us you must agree to these terms and conditions:

  • Availability: All rentals are subject to availability and will be confirmed after after booking. Bikes can be hired Monday – Saturday (they cannot be picked up or returned on a Sunday).
  • Pick up / Drop off: Bikes can be picked up from 9am on the day of hire and must be returned by the agreed time on the return day. If you are visiting Christchurch and cannot easily get to Cycleways to pick up the bike, we can possibly arrange drop-off and pick-up, please call or email us to arrange.
  • Payment: Payment for the rental period must be made in full at the time of collection. We accept cash, debit cards and credit cards.
  • Deposit: A refundable deposit of $200 will be charged at the time of booking. This will be refunded upon the satisfactory return of the bike/equipment.
  • Late Return: If the bike is returned after the scheduled return time, a late fee may be charged. If you know that you cannot return your bike by the agreed time, please contact us as soon as possible to notify us.
  • Damage or Loss: The rider is responsible for any damage or loss to the bike or accessories during the rental period. The cost of repairs or replacement will be charged to the rider. Bike locks are available to hire.
  • Maintenance/Issues with the bike: The rider is responsible for basic maintenance of the bike during the rental period, including ensuring that the bike is kept clean and free of debris. If any puncture occurs during the hire, you are supplied with a repair kit and use of this will not incur a fee. If any major mechanical issue occurs please contact us straight away.
  • Prohibited Use: The bike may not be used for racing, stunts, or any other dangerous or illegal activity. The rider may not sublet or lend the bike to anyone else.
  • Rider Responsibilities: The rider is responsible for the bike and any accessories rented, including any damage or loss that may occur during the rental period. The rider is also responsible for obeying all traffic laws and wearing appropriate safety gear, including helmets as required by NZ law. Bikes must be returned in the same condition that they were in at the start of the day, subject to reasonable wear and tear (otherwise a cleaning fee may apply).
  • Cycleways Responsibilities: We will ensure that your bike and any additional equipment is checked and in good working order and we’ll provide you with a clear brief of the bike and safety conduct. We will provide you with a repair kit with your bike. We will be contactable and available to assist you if necessary during your rental period.
  • Limitation of Liability: Cycleways is not liable for any injury, loss, or damage to the rider or any third party during the rental period.
